Special Events

At Special Kids Incorporated (SKI), 2024 has been an extraordinary year filled with events, enrichment programs, and community celebrations that brought families, volunteers, and donors together to go beyond boundaries and make a difference. From springtime fun to holiday cheer, we’ve had the privilege of engaging over 100 families throughout the year, providing support, resources, and unforgettable experiences.

A Year of Unforgettable Events

1. Easter Egg Hunt at Chicken N Pickle – April
We kicked off spring with a joy-filled Easter Egg Hunt at Chicken N Pickle! Families gathered for games, delicious food, and, of course, egg hunting fun. This event brought smiles to dozens of children and reinforced the importance of community and connection.

2. Youth Explorers Summer Enrichment STEAM Program – June
In June, SKI hosted a four-week Youth Explorers Summer Enrichment Program focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education. Youth participated in hands-on activities, creative projects, and career-building exercises designed to spark curiosity and innovation. The highlight was a group trip to the UniverSoul Circus, where participants witnessed world-class performances and learned the value of persistence and dedication.

3. Parents’ Night Out – July
We believe in supporting parents just as much as their children. That’s why we held a Parents’ Night Out in July, giving parents a well-deserved break while children enjoyed supervised activities. This event allowed families to recharge and build connections within the community.

4. Back to School Family Fun Day – August
August was all about preparing kids for success as we hosted our Back to School Family Fun Day. Families received school supplies, backpacks, and resources to set their children up for the new academic year. With games, food, and activities, it was a day of fun and preparation!

5. Youth Explorers Two-Day Camp at Camp Mohawk – November
In November, our Youth Explorers Program took to the outdoors for a two-day camping trip at Camp Mohawk. The experience was filled with team-building exercises, leadership activities, and nature exploration—encouraging youth to discover their strengths and develop independence.

6. 35th Annual SKI Christmas Party – December
We wrapped up the year with our 35th Annual Christmas Party, spreading holiday cheer to families across the Houston area. Children received gifts, enjoyed festive activities, and celebrated the season with their loved ones and SKI staff. This beloved tradition is a cornerstone of our mission to build lasting memories and connections.

Exceptional Leadership and Dedicated Volunteers

Our Board of Directors and volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Their passion, commitment, and expertise have allowed us to expand our programs, reach more families, and create meaningful experiences throughout 2024.

A special thank-you to our Board Members, including Jerrel Samuel, Deronye Robinson, and Hannah Davis, whose leadership and dedication have driven our vision forward. We also extend heartfelt gratitude to our amazing volunteers, whose tireless work has made every event possible.

Looking Ahead to 2025—Going Beyond Boundaries
